I have to admit, day two is a lot more enjoyable than the first day. I pretty much did nothing yesterday. We met with one of the coordinators so she could get to know us a little and so we could ask any questions that we may have had. The meeting took maybe a half an hour and then I was back in the hotel room (I think that's when I wrote the first entry). After that we (five other girls in the same program) had dinner at 8:30 (yes, dinner at 8 at night), talked and got to know each other, then I headed to bed. After being up for almost 24 hours strait (only four of them total spent sleeping) I was ready for bed. It took a while to fall asleep. I was homesick and didn't sleep too well.
This morning we had a 7:30 wake up call, ate breakfast and met a different coordinator at the hotel. She explained the metros to us and then we walked to the global campus. I expected it to be more of a campus instead of just a building. There we had a bit of an introduction, 'brunch', and got to meet some of the other students studying here.
After that we split up and were sent to our r
espected housing. I'm living in the South Eastern part of the city near this beautiful park. The guy who drove me here today said it's a lot like Central Park in New York (my park is the Parque del Retiro in case you want to look it up or anything). Unfortunately I have about a half hour to 45 minute commute to school every mornin
g (so that means early starts for me =/).
My host family is simply wonderful! They've had over a dozen students come and go over the years and are not only housing me, but three other students as well. There are two girls from China, and a boy from Bolivia. After sitting and ta
lking to them for over two hours I really feel like I should have attempted to write this in Spanish. Maybe I'll do that once i learn a little more. I'm surprised how quickly all of this Spanish is coming to me. I sill miss home, but I Spain is starting to grow on me.
Love and miss you all (still)!
XOXO
Carol
This is one of the streets that lead to the 'gate'. I just LOVE those types of buildings! And they are everywhere!

ReplyDeleteI miss you, and don't write your posts in spanish, then I have to translate it and thats too much work. Be a hipster and throw in an occasional spanish word, thats way cooler.
I miss you and wish I was there with you
I have to agree with everybody else. I'm glad you like it; be safe; I love you; don't write entirely in spanish (I'd end up using google translate.); etc. Keep us all posted on what you're up to, and I DEMAND! skype time with that beautiful face of yours. (Not to sound creepy of course.) =)
ReplyDeleteNO! NO SPANISH! I can't speak it and no way can I read it! You would need to do 2 blogs...1 in english and 1 in spanish. I agree...the pictures and buildings are beautiful. I can't wait to see more! I was happy to hear that you like your host family and it makes me rest a little bit better even though I still miss you! It is also nice you have other students staying with you. I was surprised to hear how long your commute to school is though. I am a day behind on your blog since we were at Bill's so I am going to the next day now....love you...momma
